Last chance to register for two nano conferences

T
ime is running out to register for two conferences covering first the topic of fuel cells, and the other nano-, micro-, and minichannels. Both conferences, sponsored by ASME's Nanotechnology Institute, will be held next month.

The Fourth International Conference on Fuel Cell Science, Engineering and Technology, is scheduled to be held June 19–21 at the Hyatt Regency Irvine in Irvine, Calif. It was developed for fuel cell and fuel cell component manufacturers and researchers, utility staff and decision makers, as well as investors, educators and students.

The conference is a venue for these professionals to exchange information, experiences, and insights on research and applications, discuss advances in the fuel cell arena, and identify barriers to technology development. It also provides an opportunity to further stimulate research activity in the emerging field of fuel cell systems and components for stationary, mobile, and portable power generation applications.

The Fuel Cell Conference program will feature a keynote lecture during each of the three morning sessions. In the late morning and every afternoon, the conference will include breakout sessions on subjects such as transportation, stationary and portable systems; low- and high-temperature fuel cells; material science and manufacturing; thermodynamic analysis; controls and transient analyses; market dynamics; and fuel processing.

In addition, the first evening of the conference will include a tour of the National Fuel Cell Research Center. A reception will follow.

The second meeting, the Fourth International Conference on Nanochannels, Microchannels and Minichannels, will also be held from June 19–21. This conference will take place at the Stokes Research Institute on the University of Limerick campus in Limerick, Ireland.

This event is intended to provide a platform for researchers to exchange information and identify research needs in an emerging area that encompasses many engineering and biomedical disciplines.

Alfonso Ortega of the National Science Foundation will be the conference's special guest speaker. Ortega, who is program director for Thermal Transport and Thermal Processing and program director of Nanotechnology Interdisciplinary Research Teams for the NSF, will give a presentation examining "U.S. National Science Foundation Initiatives in Micro and Nanoscale Research."
