Awards ceremony set for Trinidad and Tobago Group

Society members will be honored this month for their efforts in creating the Society's Trinidad and Tobago Group.

The ceremony, during the group's first annual Honors and Awards Ceremony, will be held on May 20 at the Crowne Plaza Trinidad and will recognize group members for their dedication and contributions in the development of the Trinidad and Tobago Group as well as their efforts to raise awareness of the contributions of mechanical engineering in the region.

Trinidad and Tobago is a twin island state and is the most southerly of all the Caribbean islands. Although Trinidad and Tobago and the rest of the Caribbean islands are known more for sun, sea and sand, Trinidad itself is home to a number of industries, including a significant energy sector: oil, gas, manufacturing, service and maintenance.

The ASME Trinidad and Tobago Group, formed in 1999, now comprises close to 300 members throughout the country. The Trinidad and Tobago Administrative Committee oversees local administrative issues and is made up of volunteers from various industries.

There are also two subgroups, the Industry Advisory Council and the Turbomachinery Users Group. The Industry Advisory Council links engineers, industry and academia for the purpose of promoting the professional development of engineers in the various industries throughout the state. The purpose of the Turbomachinery Users Group is to promote the exchange of information about the operation, application and maintenance of users of gas and steam turbines and turbocompressors in Trinidad and Tobago.
