Larson named an ASME Federal Fellow


ASME has named John Larson, of Sandia National Laboratories, a Federal Government Fellow for a one-year term that will run through March 2007.

Larson, an ASME member, is serving in the office of Rep. Heather Wilson, R-N.M., in Washington, D.C., where he will conduct research and provide technical input on bills and other legislative matters. His specialty is management information systems.

Larson is senior manager in charge of cyber infrastructure and development at Sandia in Albuquerque, N.M. He manages 200 people who are responsible for providing telecommunications services to various laboratories and departments at the national research facility.

Larson has worked at Sandia since 1989 and has served in various management information systems positions at the lab's facilities in Albuquerque and in Livermore, Calif. While at Sandia, he has been involved with technical programs in international standardization, national security, accident response, and nuclear safety.

Larson also has served part-time on the faculties of the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, and Las Positas College in Livermore, Calif., teaching courses in computing, network administration, and management information.

Larson attended the University of New Mexico, earning a master's degree in management information systems in 1987.

Other members in the ASME Federal Government Fellowship program currently are assisting senators, congressional leaders, and government agencies on national issues ranging from environmental management to science education.
