Lab tour, fuel cell course appetizers for conference

A course on the Fundamentals of Fuel Cell Components and Systems and a lab tour will be offered prior to ASME's Second International Conference on Fuel Cell Science, Engineering and Technology at the Rochester Institute of Technology in June.

The course is scheduled for June 11-12. The lab tour will take place June 13, and the conference will follow on June 14-16. All events will be in Rochester, N.Y.

The conference will offer 21 keynote lectures, about 100 technical papers and several panel discussions, along with a poster session and exhibition.

Cosponsored by the Rochester Institute of Technology and ASME's Rochester Heat Transfer Technical Chapter, the course will focus on the fundamental science and engineering of fuel cell components and systems, theory, analysis, design, performance, operation and integration issues.

All major fuel cells for stationary, transportation and portable applications will be covered in detail. Also covered will be fuels and fuel processing to generate hydrogen or hydrogen-rich fuel, air management systems for oxygen supply, thermal/water management, recovery or rejection of heat from exhaust products, and delivering electricity for applications.

The challenges and opportunities for fuel cell technology will also be discussed.

The hour-long tour of the NanoPower Research Labs is scheduled to take place June 13 from 4 to 5 p.m. The NanoPower Research Labs focus on the use of nanomaterial and nanotechnology in the production of energy storage and generation devices.

The tour is open to registered participants of the Fuel Cell conference only.

The course fee will be $795 before May 17 and $895 after that date. It will include breaks, lunches, a banquet, a textbook and presentation material. For more details and to register, go to www.asme.org/events/fuelcell.
