The Continuing Education Institute has expanded
ASME's Virtual Campus by bringing aboard two more schools: the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which joined in March, and the
University of Washington, which came aboard in January.
Both of the institutions are listed among the top 50 national doctoral
universities.
The ASME Virtual Campus is a service of the Continuing Education Institute,
and ASME members can register for any distance education courses online.
Virtual Campus participants interested in pursuing a degree program
have the option of enrolling in the UW distance-learning curriculum
called EDGE (Education at a Distance for Growth and Excellence). UW
is proactive in distance learning, offering 11 degrees, 27 certificates
and more than 300 courses online, attracting nearly 10,000 enrollments
a year.
MIT's Advanced Studies Program (ASP) will use the Virtual Campus
to offer seven graduate-level courses, which include four certified
courses in the school's System Dynamics program Ñ System
Dynamics Foundation: Managing Complexity, System Dynamics for Insight,
Real World System Dynamics and Advanced Topics in System Dynamics. Other
ASP courses available include Web System Architecting, Introduction
to Computers, and Engineering Problem Solving and Economic Concepts
for Engineers and Managers.
Other graduate schools participating in the Virtual Campus include Stevens
Institute of Technology, New Jersey Institute of Technology, the University
of South Carolina and the U.S. Open University.
Of the top 50 national doctoral universities, the Virtual Campus includes
the University of Wisconsin and the University of Illinois.
