• Updating its 1999 General Position Paper on the Technology Implications for the United States of the Kyoto Protocol Carbon Emissions Goals.

• Using its risk task force to explore the risks associated with energy supply problems, including effects on U.S. national security.

• Facilitating a discussion on what kind of decision-making process is needed for power generation and distribution in the United States to replace the one that vanished with deregulation.

• Exploring the impact of energy supply and reliability on the digital economy.

• Taking a more aggressive role in ensuring the appropriate level of federal investment in energy research and development.
