The June meeting of the Auxiliary in New Orleans will include two meetings, since we no longer have a meeting in the spring.

The first one is the National Board Meeting, which will take place at 3 p.m. on June 4 at the Hilton Hotel, the location for ASME's Summer Annual Meeting. At that meeting, the scholarships will be decided on and awarded. All the committee chairs of the various scholarships given by the Auxiliary will be present at this meeting instead of the one previously held in the spring.

On Tuesday morning there will be two meetings, the Annual Meeting of the Auxiliary, where all members of the Auxiliary may vote, and then a meeting where two members of the Honors and Awards Committee will be selected by the National Board. Between these two meetings there will be the installation of officers for the year 2001-2002.

Following these meetings, an Auxiliary luncheon will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the Hilton Hotel. The cost will be $25. Anyone who wishes to attend is invited to do so.

The luncheon speaker will be David Brown, the executive director of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology).

Although it is now too late to apply for the Auxiliary Scholarships for the 2001-2002 academic year, it is never too late for students to apply for a loan that does not begin to accrue interest until after graduation.

Currently, the Auxiliary has about $125,000 available for loans. Grants of up to $3,000 can be applied for from Debbie Mercer (mercergfe@juno.com).
