Deadline for ASME/FIRST scholarship applications
extended
ASME members who are planning to nominate
a FIRST team member for an ASME Foundation/FIRST Clarke Scholarship
have a few extra days to do so. The deadline for nominations has been
extended to March 7. It had previously been March 1.
The scholarship program, which is sponsored by the ASME Foundation and
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), was
developed to recognize and reward students whose experience with the
FIRST robotics competition program has inspired an interest in pursuing
an engineering career.
The ASME Foundation and the Auxiliary will award nine $5,000 scholarships
to high school seniors who are active on FIRST teams. Students will
be nominated for the scholarship by an ASME member, a member of the
ASME Auxiliary, or by a student member who is active in the activities
of FIRST. These scholarships are for the first year of study in an accredited
Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology program.
Winners will be announced at the FIRST National Championship, which
will be held in Atlanta from April 1214.
Members of ASME, including ASME Auxiliary members and student members,
may nominate no more than one student each. Students must be graduating
high school seniors active on FIRST teams who are planning to enroll
full-time in an ABET-accredited or substantially equivalent mechanical
engineering or mechanical engineering technology program no later than
the fall after their senior year in high school.
The nomination package should be e-mailed to PersaudL@asme.org
no later than March 1, or mailed and postmarked no later than March
1. Submissions by mail should be addressed to:
