New Faces of Engineering is an international recognition project intended
to promote the accomplishments and contributions of young engineers,
30 years of age or younger, while creating awareness of the resulting
impact that engineers have on our daily lives. Bieler and the 14 other
New Faces representatives were featured in a full-page ad in USA Today
that ran during Engineers Week.
Each year, nominations are submitted by the sponsoring societies and
government agencies of Engineers Week to recognize outstanding engineering
talent and achievement. Bieler, a resident of New York City, was selected
from a group of four ASME New Faces finalists who were nominated to
represent the Society in 2007.
After graduating from Cooper Union in 2002, Bieler has worked for the
Port Authority as an associate engineer developing air-conditioning
and smoke control systems for the station platforms at the World Trade
Center Transportation Hub. She is also currently involved with the design
of the tunnel ventilation system for the Port Authority Trans-Hudson
(PATH) line.
Bieler has also given back to the community by participating in the
Architecture, Construction and Engineering (ACE) Mentor program. Created
in 1994 to introduce high school students to career opportunities in
industry, Bieler shares her enthusiasm for design engineering by serving
as a team leader to students of the ACE chapter in Newark, N.J.
Among other community activities she also helps coordinate events for
"Introduce a Girl to Engineering," an Engineers Week program
that is designed to create awareness of the many career opportunities
women can have in the engineering and technology professions.
ASME is a member of the Engineers Week steering committee and served
as co-chair of E-Week 2005.
