John M. Barsom, an ASME Fellow, received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Institute of Steel Construction "in special recognition for many years of service to AISC and to the structural steel design, construction and academic communities." Barsom is a fellow of the American Society for Testing and Materials and the American Society for Metals International. He has received several awards from different technical organizations. He was selected Engineer of the Year by the ASME Pittsburgh Section in 1983-84. He has been a member of ASME for 36 years.

ASME Fellow N. Jan Davis, P.E., was one of 10 engineers named as the National Society of Professional Engineers' (NSPE) Top 10 Federal Engineers of the Year. The award recognizes outstanding engineers employed in the federal government. Davis, the deputy director of NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama, has been a member of ASME since 1979.

Ajit K. Mal, an ASME Fellow, has been selected as the recipient of the ASME Nondestructive Evaluation Engineering (NDE) Division's Founder's Award, which will be presented at the Seventh NDE Topical Conference at the end of April. The award recognizes outstanding contributions by an individual in the field of NDE engineering. Mal, a professor in the school of mechanical and aerospace engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles, has been an ASME member since 1982.

The American Association of Engineering Societies (AAES) has named ASME President John R. Parker, P.E., as a vice chair of the society's Executive Committee. The position, which carries a two-year term, began Jan. 1. Parker, an ASME Life Fellow, has been an ASME member since 1966.

ASME Past President Winfred M. Phillips, vice president for research and dean of the graduate school at the University of Florida, was named chair-elect of the American Association of Engineering Societies (AAES) for a one-year term that began Jan. 1. Phillips, an ASME Fellow, was the 1998-99 president of ASME. He has been a member of ASME since 1974.
