Issues and applications of fluids engineering
are conference highlights
The ASME Fluids Engineering Division Summer Meeting
is a forum that brings together engineers from the aerospace, automotive,
instrumentation, power generation and HVAC industries to discuss fluid
engineering problems and solutions.
The 2001 Fluids Engineering Conference will take place from May 29 through
June 1 at the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel in New Orleans.
The conference, which is sponsored by ASME's Fluids Engineering Division,
is expected to draw hundreds of engineers, scientists and researchers to
discuss the issues and applications of fluids engineering. The event will
also provide these professionals with a venue for the exchange of technical
information, products and services.
The conference sessions will feature more than 300 technical papers on
computational fluid dynamics, measurement and control, fluid machinery, finite
element applications and other topics. Speakers and panelists will be from
national laboratories, automotive and aerospace companies, the power engineering
industry, universities and other organizations involved in advanced research
and systems development.
Topics of special interest to be covered during the event's technical sessions
will include computational fluid dynamics (CFD) applications in large facilities,
microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) for fluid measurement, cavitation and
multiphase flow.
One of the special events slated during the conference is the Industry Exchange
Program, during which engineers and scientists will have the opportunity
to discuss successful applications and opportunities in fluids engineering,
and consider the resources necessary to bridge promising research endeavors
and commercial markets.
The Industry Exchange Program will consist of seven panel and workshop
presentations, covering topics such as international cooperation to develop
CFD technology, fluid power and hydraulics, and mixing in microfluidic systems.
The program will also feature a fluids engineering clinic, an open forum
on microfluidics and a session examining the NASA John C. Stennis Space Center.
The conference will also include three tutorials "Pumping Machinery,"
"Modern Applications of Experimental Uncertainty Analysis" and "Code Verification
and Validation" as well as several plenary sessions.
The plenary presentations will include "Technology Transfer in the U.S.
Industrial Enterprise," by Norm Abramson from the Southwest Research Institute;
"Improving the Acceptability of Flow Measurements," by George Mattingly of
the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and "Pump Technology
Are We Making Progress?" by S. Ghopalakrishnan of Flowserve Corp.
