ASME.ORG now powered
by Vivísimo search engine

With tens of thousands of product, information and content pages available to the public, ASME.ORG has grown into an engineering information resource to be reckoned with. And as the size of ASME's sites have expanded, so have the search needs of the hundreds of thousands of readers who visit ASME sites each month.

As the physical size of ASME's Web site usage grew, it became clear that ASME needed an enterprise search solution that could easily integrate with the organization's newly implemented content management system, databases and other sites, and provide faster and more accurate indexing, with full management features and reporting capabilities. Last month, ASME answered this problem by launching its new search engine powered by Vivísimo Velocity.

With the new search engine, ASME.ORG's thousands of users will have access to multiple content sources searchable from a single, user-friendly interface.

"Over the past year, ASME reviewed several search vendors, including Google, Autonomy and Verity, to compare their capabilities and value," said Virgil Carter, executive director of ASME. "Vivísimo Velocity's full range of features has enabled us to choose a search solution that is more conducive to ASME members and the engineering and technical community."

Vivísimo was ultimately selected for its full suite of features, including its growth in research-based environments, sophisticated administrative interfaces and advanced reporting capabilities. "These capabilities matched or surpassed the offerings of most of the other Web search solutions that ASME reviewed, including the Google Search Appliance," said Denman Wall, director of new media for ASME. "Vivísimo Velocity enables ASME to index five times more content with increased accuracy, flexibility and realize a greater return on investment" that the site's previous search engine, Wall added.

"In addition, the search engine's XML architecture will allow for more flexibility and growth, as ASME.ORG continues to expand," he said. Wall added that Vivísimo's clustering technology, which uses content surrounding a search keyword to create ad-hoc categories, is on the cutting edge of enterprise search technology.

So, take a minute now to visit www.asme.org and take the new search engine for a spin. If you have any questions about the new search features, contact Denman Wall, director of New Media, (212) 591-8645, e-mail walld@asme.org.
