Working engineers interested in career
advancement may find that being able to list Engineering Management
Certification Professional after their name will guide them along that
career path more efficiently than an MBA.
The time commitment and cost of becoming an EMCP is far less than what
it takes to acquire a master in business administration. And because
EMCPs must be re-certified every three years to maintain their credential,
employers may value it more.
Engineering Management Certification International is an ASME initiative
that was established last year in response to industry's interest
in creating a global standard for engineering management.
The content and courses are being offered in cooperation with four other
professional societies: the American Society of Civil Engineers, the
American Society of Chemical Engineers, the American Institute of Mining,
Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers, and the Institute of Electrical
and Electronics Engineers.
The online EMCI courses became available in January. Live courses begin
this month in Las Vegas.
Topics for the live and online courses include Developing Products;
Finance and Procurement; Adjusting Business Strategies; Engineering
Maintenance; Market Research; and Professional Responsibility.
