If you work in the nuclear engineering area and want to stay on top of industry trends and developments, be sure to attend the 12th International Conference on Nuclear Engineering (ICONE -12) next month, where you'll also have the opportunity to meet other professionals from the field.

ICONE-12, which will take place from April 25-29 at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, Va., is the premier technical conference on nuclear engineering. This year's conference will feature more than 400 technical presentations from nuclear engineering experts. The meeting will also include a student program intended to foster the development of future nuclear professionals.

"Nuclear Energy — Powering the Future" is the theme of ICONE-12, which is sponsored by ASME and the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineering.

The conference will include a special track of technical sessions, the Nuclear Industry Forum, consisting of a series of panel discussions addressing important issues facing the nuclear industry today.

Panelists will include international leaders from utilities, vendors and government. U.S. Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham; U.S. Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho; Nils Diaz, chairman of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission; William Magwood, director of the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Nuclear Energy; and Dale Klein, assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Defense Programs, will be among the experts giving presentations during these unique technical sessions.

Other professionals taking part in the Nuclear Industry Forum will include David Baldwin, senior vice president of General Atomics; James Malone, vice president of Exelon Corp.; Regis Matzie, senior vice president and chief technology officer at Westinghouse; E. James Reinsch, president of Bechtel Nuclear Power; and Michael Wallace, president of Constellation Generation Group.

As many as 700 companies and organizations are expected to participate in ICONE-12's exhibition, which is widely recognized as an excellent venue for pursuing nuclear engineering business and learning about nuclear research taking place around the world. The exhibits floor will be made up of utility, business, technical, research and governmental leaders from more than 25 countries.

One very special event at this year's ICONE will be a private reception at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum from 7 to 10 p.m. on April 27. Food and beverages will be served, and transportation from the conference hotel will be provided. The reception is free for full-conference registrants. Single-day registrants and attendee guests may purchase tickets to the reception.

Registration for ICONE-12 is $750 for members of ASME or cooperating societies, $895 for nonmembers. One-day registration is $450 for members, $595 for nonmembers.
