FE Exam prep comes to Personal Digital Assistant

The Continuing Education Institute has introduced a new tool to help students prepare for the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam. FE To Go is a Palm OS Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) based study aid.

A CEI market survey demonstrated that members are increasingly interested in PDA-based applications and with software downloadable from the Web, FE To Go brings students a portable test preparation tool.

A similar application was developed by a major exam prep company for the Graduate Record Exam and the Graduate Management Admissions Test, so this FE prep tool seemed a natural fit, said Thomas Kuehl, manager of distance learning for CEI.

PDAs are widely used because they are less cumbersome than laptop computers. And with test prep software downloaded to the OS, a student will have the flexibility to prepare for the exam practically anywhere without having to sit down with a notebook computer or find a library or dorm room to use a PC.

FE To Go is CEI's first salvo into the PDA market, and based on the success of the application, Kuehl said, other products may follow, such as a PE review or ASME Technology Review — formerly known as the 100 Questions Series.

The FE To Go program is currently available with software downloadable from the Web. It costs $49 for ASME members and $59 for nonmembers.
