March 15 is fast approaching. That's the deadline for submission of applications for Auxiliary Scholarships for the 2002-03 academic year.

Loans from the ASME Auxiliary, however, can be applied for at any time during the year. Needy students can apply for loans of up to $3,000 by visiting www.asme.org, just as students would do when applying for a scholarship.

From June through November 2001, $16,500 in loan money was granted from the Auxiliary. Currently, the Auxiliary has more than $130,000 available to needy students. Our rates are good — 6 percent — with interest and principal deferred until three months after the recipient graduates from college.

As most of you know, we lost the chair of our Student Loan Fund when Debbie Mercer died late last year. Debbie's responsibilities as chair were assumed by ASME Auxiliary president Janet Watson. Janet will continue as chair of the Student Loan Fund when her term as president ends in June. She can be contacted at (610) 688-4826 or via e-mail at jswatson@bellatlantic.net.
