ASME seeks Federal Fellow applicants to serve at U.S. Department of Labor


ASME is currently seeking applicants interested in serving a one-year term as a Federal Fellow at the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL).

The DOL Fellow will work with a high-level team on engineering entrepreneurship, workforce development, and science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education issues, including, but not limited to the following:

• Serve as an expert on related workforce policy and cross-industry workforce needs facing STEM-related disciplines that include the biological sciences (except medicine and other clinical fields), physical sciences, mathematical sciences, computer and information sciences, the geosciences, and engineering, as well as technology areas associated with the preceding fields.

• Serve as an advisor and resource to the Assistant Secretary for the Employment and Training Administration (ETA), Department of Labor, on science, technology, engineering and mathematics skills needs across industries.

• Develop and implement a strategic plan that enhances and sustains strategic partnerships and leverages existing programs and best practices with professional associations, foundations, business, industry, and association executives; high-level officials from other federal agencies; and officials from the workforce (development, education, and economic development systems) that contribute to developing a qualified and competitive workforce.

• Serve as an expert about the resources and operations of the public workforce system.

All Fellowship applicants must be U.S. citizens and ASME members at the time of application. The following credentials are encouraged: at least five years of professional experience, an advanced engineering degree, professional engineer registration, and some public policy experience.

Federal Fellows will receive a stipend of $50,000 for the year. In addition, Fellows will also be reimbursed for up to $1,000 in moving expenses.
