The Human Powered Vehicle Challenge West Coast, held in Reno, Nev.,
in late April, showcased the design, aerodynamics, speed and performance
of land-based, pedal-powered vehicles.

of 22 current research projects on carbon sequestration to direct government

dies
Charles E. Jones, who served as ASME president from 1980-81, died April
6 at the age of 81.
Recruitment program to finish

The member effort to sign up new recruits while supporting student education
will continue until June 30.
Updates to AMR journal in July
Next month marks the debut of the online version of the Applied Mechanics
Reviews journal, along with some new options for subscribing to it and
to the online database of journal abstracts.
