Belden honored for contributions

The New York Society of Association Executives (NYSAE) honored ASME Executive

Director David L. Belden in April with NYSAE's most prestigious recognition, the Outstanding Association Executive Award.

The award was established in 1984 to honor those individuals who have made significant contributions to the association management profession. It was presented to Belden at the annual NYSAE Professional Recognition Awards luncheon, held April 25 at the City University of New York in Manhattan. The award cited Belden's leadership, service and special achievements beneficial to the association and the not-for-profit profession.

During the annual meeting in April, Belden added another honor to his list of achievements. He was installed as chair-elect of NYSAE after having served a one-year term as vice-chair and two years as a director.

Since June 1987, Belden has served ASME International as executive director and as a member of ASME's Board of Governors. His leadership has guided ASME into the 21st century with continued quality service to both its members and the technical community.

Prior to joining ASME, Belden served for 11 years as the executive director and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE), then a 40,000-member technical society based in Atlanta.

A past president of the Council of Engineering and Scientific Society Executives, Belden currently serves on a number of boards in the not-for-profit sector, including NYSAE, the American Society of Association Executives, the American Association of Engineering Societies and the United Engineering Trustees.

Belden is also a fellow of ASME and IIE as well as other technical organizations.
