If the location of Congress 2004 alone doesn't tempt members to attend ASME's annual showcase event, then access to hands-on product demonstrations, networking opportunities and technical updates is likely to do the trick.

Congress 2004 will be held Nov. 13-19 in Anaheim, Calif., at the Anaheim Hilton.

More than 500 technical sessions will be offered this year in a variety of industries, including Biomedical, Energy, Engineering Business Management, Homeland Security and Nanotechnology.

Congress conference fees will be posted later this month. Advanced Congress Online Registration will open in early July. Those who register on or before Sept. 12 will receive a discount on the room rate.

To get a sense of what you will experience during Congress '04, watch as the programs take shape in these areas:

Biomedical Technology — exploring the use of cutting-edge technologies to develop sophisticated products for healthcare and medical devices.

Electrical Systems and Photonic Design — focusing on the tools needed for design and manufacturing process of micro (MEMS), nano scale, and photonics technologies.

Energy — dealing with issues affecting our national and global energy strategies, including global climate change, energy industry restructuring, developments in energy efficiency and technology, and innovative power systems.

Engineering Business Management — featuring workshops that emphasize entrepreneurial ventures, engineering profit centers, intellectual property, project management and global business culture.

Homeland Security — providing perspectives on the protection of critical assets and related issues, including risk identification, threat examination, response plans, and lessons learned from experienced terrorist analysts.

Manufacturing — presenting the newest and most efficient manufacturing tools and techniques in aerospace, electronics, healthcare, and much more.

Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) — covering miniature devices combining electrical, mechanical, optical, chemical and/or biological components fabricated via integrated circuit or similar manufacturing techniques.

Nanotechnology — examining the science and engineering of applying nano building blocks and nano processing, and new discoveries addressing design, processing, packaging and assembly of multiscale systems.

Transportation and Environment — discussing applications on crashworthiness, improving safety, speed and comfort, and the use of remote sensing in vehicle modeling and testing.
