Barlow is Society's President-Nominee;
other '08 officers also announced
TORONTO Thomas M. Barlow was named the Society's new President-Nominee
by the ASME Nominating Committee at the Summer Annual Meeting here last
month. Three members of the Board of Governors and five Society vice
presidents all with terms beginning in 2008 were also
announced during the meeting.

Barlow, an ASME Life Fellow, will assume the presidency at the 2008
Summer Annual Meeting next June. He has held a number of positions within
ASME, including member of the Board of Governors, vice president of
the Energy Resources Group, member of the Board on Public Information,
member of the Publications Committee, and member of the Mechanical
Engineering Magazine Editorial Advisory Board.
A member of the Board of Governors from 20032006, Barlow has also
held positions on the Board on Communications, the Committee on Organization
and Rules, the Committee on Administration, the Committee on Honors
and By-Laws, the Management Division, the Pacific Region, the Mt. Diablo
Section, and the Engineering and Technology Management Group. He is
a recipient of the ASME Dedicated Service Award.
Also at the Summer Annual Meeting, Shlomo Carmi, Madiha Kotb, and K.
Keith Roe were selected as the three newest members of the ASME Board
of Governors. Carmi, Kotb, and Roe will become members of the BOG next
June at the Summer Annual Meeting.
Five ASME vice presidents will also begin their three-year terms next
year at SAM: Bryan A. Erier, Nuclear Codes and Standards; Robert E.
Grimes, International Petroleum Technology Institute; Louis Hayden,
Jr., Pressure Technologies Codes and Standards; Thomas G. Libertiny,
Global Communities; and Mary Lynn Realff, Leadership and Diversity.
Barlow and the other officer nominees will be on the ballot that will
be sent out to voting members of ASME in the September issue of Mechanical
Engineering magazine.
