VOLT Academy moves into high gear

Members of ASME's volunteer training unit,
the VOLT Academy, met during last month's Summer Annual Meeting to discuss
their goals for the coming year, which includes and enhanced marketing
effort and integration with other areas of the Society.
Specifically, the goals include: collaborating with the Early Career
Committee and Young Engineer Correspondents to implement recommendations
of the Young Engineers Strategic Initiative; refining the Leadership
Path Curriculum (LPC); increasing the usefulness of VOLT website with
streaming video capability and additional online materials; developing
a strategic communications plan; and continuing to provide support and
added value to scheduled training activities, such as student leadership
seminars and conferences, new officer and Board of Governor-elect orientations,
and the LTC.
As it transitions from project team to committee operating format, VOLT
invites volunteers from all ASME Sectors to become involved with any
of its committees:
The Training Development Committee, which will focus on the identification
of training needs of volunteers throughout the sectors and refinement
of the leadership curriculum to meet them; description and measurement
of success of training by identifying metrics and targets; and providing
guidance on best practices in training methodologies and facilitation.
The Training Program Committee, which will focus on the curriculum
and content for specific training events, providing assistance to the
project teams for all face-to-face events, conducting assessment and
evaluation for those events, working with all Sectors to avoid duplication
of training events and resources, and ensuring that leadership development
resources are kept current and consistent throughout the Society.
The Training Communication and Scheduling Committee, which will
develop and implement VOLT's communications plans, develop and maintain
the web site, and keep current on best practices for online training
methodologies.
