Ethics committee now accepting nominations
for position
The Committee on Ethical Standards &
Review (CESR) is accepting nominations for an open position.
The CESR, part of the Center for Professional Development, Practice,
and Ethics, seeks to encourage a high standard of ethical practice in
engineering while improving the status of the engineering profession.
This includes oversight of the following ASME policies:
Ethical Conduct Violation Procedures (Policy 15.4)
Code of Ethics of Engineers (Policy 15.7)
Policy on Conflicts of Interest (Policy 15.8)
Policy on Sexual Harassment (Policy 15.9)
The CESR maintains Community of Practice Web sites related to engineering
ethics, and serves as the ASME liaison with the National Institute for
Engineering Ethics. Members of this committee conduct seminars, presentations,
and training sessions on the ethical aspects of the engineering profession.
These events are held at ASME conferences, local section meetings, and
company worksites.
Criteria for the committee membership position include a minimum of
10 years of dedicated service to ASME; a minimum of five years experience
in ASME activities beyond the local section level; a commitment to upholding
ethics in engineering practice; and a Professional Engineer's license.
The term for this committee position begins in July 2007 and continues
through the end of June 2011. Please submit nominations to David J.
