Following each panel presentation on "Technology Mining for Competitive
Advantage," the Industry Advisory Board members discussed ASME's
role as a liaison between commercial companies looking to solve a problem
and universities or federal laboratories that developed technologies
that could offer the solution.
Upgrade to steam tables software
The professional software version of ASME Steam Properties for Industrial
Use has been updated by the Properties Subcommittee of the ASME Research
and Technology Committee on Water and Steam in Thermal Systems.
Landmark oil well blowout preventer recognized
The first ram-type blowout preventer (BOP) allowed the manual closing
of a well, saving lives and preventing surface oil accumulation at drilling
sites. The first one, now exhibited at Cameron world headquarters in
Houston, is to become an ASME Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark
in a ceremony this month.
