The Committee on Finance and the Board of Governors approved development fund requests for the E-Commerce Initiative and the Nanotechnology Institute during the Summer Annual Meeting last month in Minneapolis.

The E-Commerce Initiative won approval of $2.5 million, which will cover projected expenses for items such as association management and financial packaging vendors, and the Digital Store, among others.

The E-Commerce Initiative first received allocated funds in the summer of 2000 and has spent $853,000 of its previously approved $1.5 million. The additional funding was requested to meet its expected expenses of just over $3 million.

Of the funding for the Nanotechnology Institute that was first allocated in spring 2001, $130,000 remains.

The BOG approved rolling over that money for the next fiscal year. Much of it will be used to promote and plan the Integrated Nanosystems 2002: Design, Synthesis and Applications conference scheduled for Sept. 18-20 this year in Berkeley, Calif.

Additional funds will be requested as needed.
