Membership pays rich dividends for Colorado
member
Douglas K.Werner, P.E., of Douglas Engineering in
Westminster, Colo., is the latest person to win a Palm Pilot VII.
He is a member
of the Colorado Section in the Rocky Mountain Region (Region XII).
The name of every member who recruits a new, dues-paid member is entered
in the drawing as part of an incentive program in ASME's current membership
drive.
To date, 10 Palm Pilots have been awarded.
For more information about ASME's current recruitment drive and how to be
entered in the drawing, visit www.asme.org/memb.
ASME NEWS: What are you planning on doing with the Palm once you receive
it?
Werner: I do a lot of work away from my office and my contact manager.
A Palm Pilot will enable me to keep in touch with clients and friends when
I don't have my computer with me. The Palm Pilot is a definite improvement
over the old way of doing things, and I appreciate it very much.
This is a wonderful, unexpected benefit of being a 30-plus-year member of
ASME.
ASME NEWS: Why did you decide to become a member?
Werner: I became a student member when I started studying engineering
in college and continuing my membership seemed like a good way to stay current
with new things in my profession.
ASME NEWS: How long have you been an ASME member?
Werner: I became a student member in 1966 and a "regular" member in
1971 when I graduated college.
ASME NEWS: Why do you continue to be a member?
Werner: I have found membership in ASME, especially being part of
my section's executive committee, to be a fulfilling way to help my profession
and learn new things.
ASME NEWS: Why did you recommend ASME as a professional society to
join?
Werner: I recommend ASME as a professional society to all mechanical
engineers as an excellent way to keep informed about our profession.
