ASME President Sam Y. Zamrik said that the fiscal year 2008 Omnibus
Appropriation Bill, recently passed by both the House and Senate and
signed by President George W. Bush, does not adhere to the promises

Open-Source Design Team Named
On the heels of the 2007 ASME Student Design Competition held at the
Congress in November, the Society has named a five-person team to work
on an open-source project.
ASME Foundation Approves Nearly
$250,000 in Grants
Many Society members may not know that a significant function of the
ASME Foundation is its grants program, which provides funding for grant
proposals in three areas: technical literacy, career planning and skills
development, and technologically sound public policy stewardship.
Deadline Nears for ASME's Early
Career Leadership Intern Program
ASME members who would like to gain experience at the leadership level
of ASME have until Jan. 15 to apply for the Early Career Leadership
Intern Program to Serve Engineering (ECLIPSE).
Dates and Locations in Place
for 2008 HPV Challenges
The dates and locations for three ASME 2008 Human Powered Vehicle Challenges
(HPVC) have been set. The two U.S. Challenges will take place in Nevada
and Wisconsin this April, while a third competition is slated for Venezuela
in September.
