The good work of the ASME Auxiliary rests
entirely on the efforts of its many dedicated members and staff, most
of whom are volunteers. At the National Board Meeting of the Auxiliary
on Nov. 13, 2007, in Seattle, Janet S. Watson was awarded the ASME Dedicated
Service Award in recognition of 25 years of outstanding volunteer service.
Janet joined the Auxiliary in 1982 as a member of the Philadelphia Section.
In Philadelphia, Janet held nearly every position available chair,
vice chair, treasurer, and secretary, as well as serving in a number
of other capacities as required. She joined the National Board in 1993
as chair of the Student Loan Fund and held that position until 1999,
when she became executive vice president.
In June 2000, Janet became president of the ASME Auxiliary and held
that position for two years. After that, she resumed her role as Student
Loan Fund chairman and took on the role of honors and awards chair.
In 2004, she became Auxiliary treasurer and held that office until last
June, when she assumed her current position of recording secretary.
When Janet is not working on matters relating to the ASME Auxiliary,
she also volunteers with the Girl Scouts of America something
she has enjoyed for more than 35 years. Janet began working with the
Girl Scouts when her own daughters were young and simply never quit.
Over the years, she has served as a Brownie, Cadette, Junior and Senior
leader. Janet continues to work for the local Girl Scout Council as
treasurer of the local service unit and pitches in whenever the local
Girl Scout Council needs assistance.
Occasionally, Janet also does secretarial work from her home. She enjoys
spending leisure time with her husband Bob, three daughters and four
grandchildren. Janet has traveled throughout the United States, to Europe,
South America and Russia, enjoying train travel and river cruises in
particular.
Congratulations, Janet, on your outstanding service to the ASME Auxiliary
and the other organizations you have assisted throughout your career.
The ASME Auxiliary greatly appreciates the time and talent you have
extended over the last quarter-century.
