ASME Foundation, Auxiliary to award $50K in scholarships to FIRST high school team members

If you're an ASME member working with a FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) robotics team and there's a high-school senior on the team you think should be commended for his or her contributions, don't forget to nominate that student for an ASME Foundation-ASME Auxiliary FIRST Clarke Scholarship.

The ASME Foundation and the ASME Auxiliary will award 10 FIRST Clarke Scholarships of $5,000 apiece in 2006. The scholarship program was devised as a way to recognize and reward students whose FIRST experience has inspired an interest in pursuing an engineering career. The deadline for nominating students is March 1, 2006.

The FIRST Clarke Scholarships will be given to high school seniors who are active on a FIRST Competition team. Students must be nominated by either a ASME member, ASME Auxiliary member, or a ASME student member who is active in the FIRST Competition.

The award will be for the first year of study (nonrenewable) at an accredited university's mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology program. The recipients will be announced at the FIRST National Championships, April 27–29, 2006, in Atlanta.
