Early detection, diagnosis is a new health benefit available to members

When it comes to finding out if you or family members are at risk for life-threatening vascular diseases, proactive health maintenance and early detection are invaluable.

But physicians rarely order comprehensive diagnostic tests for people with no symptoms or history of disease because insurance companies don't generally provide coverage until a disease is identified.

ASME is now offering members and their extended family affordable and painless health screenings that can help determine who is at risk for life-threatening vascular diseases.

Through Life Line Screening, members can obtain preventive, noninvasive screenings that can quickly assess their risk for several common vascular diseases.

State-of-the-art Doppler ultrasound technology is used to detect arterial abnormalities that can cause irregular blood flow and lead to catastrophic results.

ASME members may choose from four screenings: carotid vascular screening, which assesses the risk of stroke; abdominal aortic aneurysm screening, which detects enlargement of blood vessel linings; ankle brachial index screening, which tests for peripheral arterial disease; and osteoporosis screening, which assesses bone mineral density.

Each screening requires 10 minutes or less to complete. In most states, the fee for each screening is $40 and $35 for the osteoporosis screening. Members can save $30 by signing up for the complete wellness package, which includes all four screenings for $125.

To make an appointment for a screening in your area, or if you have any questions about the program, call (800) 779-5071.
