It has been decided by the Board of Directors of the ASME Auxiliary not to award a Lucy and Charles W.E. Clarke Scholarship this year due to insufficient funds.

We will, however, be awarding up to two scholarships each from the undergraduate scholarship (Farny) fund, the master's (Rothermel) fund and the foreign student (Rice-Cullimore) fund. One scholarship will be awarded from the doctoral (Parsons) fund. The money for these scholarships will come from unrestricted funds and temporarily restricted funds. If the earnings and contributions are sufficient, more scholarships may be given.

We will continue the process of participation in the Lucy and Charles W.E. Clarke Scholarship fund.

It was very difficult for the Auxiliary Board to undertake this decision, but in light of our severe losses due to the decline of the stock market, we felt we had no other choice. Any contributions from the ASME Auxiliary Sections and individuals will enhance our ability to award more scholarships now and in the future.

Any contributions should be sent to our Treasurer, Lynn Gerber, at 8815 Rockwood Rd., Boston, NY 14025-3932.
