Elevator and escalator code to be explored next month in Las Vegas

ASME's Continuing Education Institute will present five short courses — including four courses on elevators and escalators — next month in Las Vegas. The classes will take place from Feb. 11-17 at Harrah's Las Vegas.

"ASME A17.4, Emergency Evacuation of Passengers from Elevators," on Feb. 11, will enable attendees to safely and efficiently remove passengers from elevators in certain emergencies when no elevator maintenance personnel are available. Registration is $395 for ASME members, $495 for nonmembers.

"Introduction to Elevators and Escalators," on Feb. 11 and 12, will cover the essential design and operation of elevators and escalators, as well as addressing the terminology and functions of the various associated mechanical and electrical components. Registration is $795 for members, $895 for nonmembers.

From Feb. 12-15, "ASME A17.1, Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators" will provide a comprehensive review and analysis of the Safety Code. The class will cover all of the industry segments, including design, construction, installation, operation, maintenance, alteration, inspection and testing. Registration is $1,295 for members, $1,395 for nonmembers.

"How to Perform Elevator Inspections Using ASME A17.2.1 and A17.2.2," which will be given from Feb. 13-15, will cover inspection test procedures and include detailed explanations of techniques and concepts. Attendees will learn how to determine safety sliding distance, working pressure for hydraulic elevators and governor pull through and release carrier pull-out forces. Registration is $950 for members, $1,050 for nonmembers.

On Feb. 14 and 15, "How to Predict Thermal-Hydraulic Loads on Pressure Vessels and Piping" will provide attendees with a greater awareness of thermal-hydraulic loads. Registration is $795 for members, $895 for nonmembers.
