In response to the terrorist attacks on the Pentagon and the World Trade Center, ASME has joined with other engineering and scientific societies to sponsor the Science and Engineering Scholarship Fund.

This fund was established to provide scholarships for children and spouses of the victims of the attacks who want to pursue an education in science or engineering.

To be eligible for assistance from the Science and Engineering Scholarship Fund, participants must be financially needy dependents, including children and spouses, of people who died or are permanently disabled as a direct result of the attacks or the rescue efforts. Additionally, participants must plan to enroll or currently be enrolled at a two- or four-year accredited college, university, or vocational school in the United States.

Students may also apply for assistance in their senior year of high school. Financial need will be determined by what a family can afford compared with the tuition of the school.

The fund will be administered by the Citizens Scholarship Foundation of America and, depending on the available funding, this education assistance may be renewable for up to three years of undergraduate study provided the student maintains satisfactory academic progress.

Interested participants can begin applying this month. For more information, visit www.aps.org/sciencefund.html.
