Washington seeks out ASME's expert
guidance
Recognizing the Society's expertise
in technology issues, the White House Office of Science and Technology
Policy (OSTP) asked ASME to provide a fellow with broad knowledge of
nuclear reactor safety, pipeline safety and other vulnerable energy
assets to assist with OSTP's homeland security/ antiterrorism
efforts.
OSTP is currently reviewing a list of fellow candidates provided by
ASME.
This fellow will work directly with the director of OSTP and coordinate
OSTP activities with the recently created Office of Homeland Security.
The fellowship, which is expected to start as early as this month, is
one of two ASME fellowships at OSTP.
The other fellowship, also starting this month, will report to the associate
director for technology at OSTP, and will be responsible for a broad
portfolio of issues on research and technology development.
ASME will also place three fellows in the U.S. Congress.
