Congress attendance in New York
is strong
More than 4,000 people traveled to New York City, two months after Sept.
11, to participate in the 497 technical sessions related to the highlight
topic of the meeting: "Progress through Partnership: Team Approaches
to Today's Technology." With participants numbering 4,134, the
2001 Congress had the highest number of total attendees since 1993.

ASME briefing informs Capitol Hill staffers about U.S. nuclear plants
The briefing, "The Nation's Nuclear Infrastructure," was part
of a series of briefings on vulnerability and security that ASME organized
after Sept. 11. The series is sponsored by ASME and several other engineering
and scientific societies.
Washington seeks expert guidance
The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) has
asked ASME to provide a Washington fellow with broad knowledge of nuclear
reactor safety, pipeline safety and other vulnerable energy assets.
Engineers get radio casting

Some 200 engineers will be needed over the next year for a new public
radio program that is being launched by the American Association of
Engineering Societies with generous support from ASME and the other
Founder Societies.
