Make passing the P.E. Exam your New Year's resolution

If one of your goals for the New Year is passing the P.E. Exam in April, ASME's Professional Development Department can help.

The PE Online review course was developed to assist engineers preparing for the second part of the licensing exam, The P.E. Exam: Principles and Practice of Mechanical Engineering.

For those who sign up for PE Online, the expertise of Prof. Mahesh Aggarwal from Gannon University will be available to answer e-mail questions that may arise during your review.

This interactive, online review program contains more than 200 problems, with solutions that include concise summaries of the relevant equations and the concepts of the subject tested in the problem.

The program is divided into the following 11 modules: Heat Transfer; Controls and Vibrations; Instrumentation and Measurement; Mechanics of Materials; HVAC/R; Materials Engineering; Management and Economics; Kinematics and Dynamics; Hydraulics and Pneumatics; Fire Protection; and Thermodynamics and Power Cycles.

Each module contains problems and solutions as well as explanatory text. You can review the text first or start off with the problems to assess your level of expertise. Testing yourself also can help you determine how to organize your study time by showing you the areas that you need to study and concentrate on, and the areas that you need only to review quickly.

The amount of time you may spend online studying the text or practicing with the problems is unlimited.

There is a timed final test to further prepare you for the exam. In this practice exam, you will have four hours to complete four exam-type problems. Upon completion of the practice exam, you will receive your results. You may take the exam as often as you like.

PE Online is a handy tool that can be used alone to study for the exam or in conjunction with Professional Development's P.E. Exam Review Video program.
