Two new courses to be offered in New York

Two new ASME Professional Development short courses — on feedwater heater operation and blueprint reading — will be offered at ASME headquarters at Three Park Avenue in New York in late March.

The first course, "Feedwater Heater Operation and Maintenance Techniques," will be given on March 22 and 23. Through examples of heater testing and case studies of failed heaters, this two-day course will provide information and instruction on cost-efficient design, operations, maintenance, testing and replacement of closed feedwater heaters.

The course's instructors will be Michael Catapano, vice chairman of ASME's Power Division Heat Exchanger Committee, and Gerald Weber, chairman of the same committee and a thermal performance specialist with Commonwealth Edison. Registration is $695 for ASME members, $795 for nonmembers.

The second new class, "Blueprint Reading and Graphic Symbols," will be held March 28-30. The course will provide the tools you'll need to become familiar with reading blueprints and interpreting the latest American National Standards Institute (ANSI)/ASME graphical symbols. The class will review the basics of orthographic drawing and current graphical symbols published in ANSI/ASME and American Welding Society (AWS) standards.

The instructor will be Al Moore, who is AWS-certified as a senior welding inspector for four nondestructive testing methods. Registration is $855 for members, $955 for nonmembers.
