With the holiday season behind us, it is time to publicize
the scholarships and time for submission of applications for the 2001/2002
academic year. Time really does fly, and the deadline for getting the completed
applications to the committees is March 15. Applications can be downloaded
from the Web site, by going to www.asme.org.
ASME members and members of the Auxiliary in particular are asked to spread
the word that we have loan money available to students in the amount of $3,000
per loan at 6 percent interest, which does not start to accrue until the
student has graduated. To obtain a loan application form, please look on
the Auxiliary section of the Web site as well. Debbie Mercer is the Student
Loan Fund chair.
At the Congress meeting of the Auxiliary, Robert Bennett and Barbara Goldstein
gave a report about the Lucy and Charles W.E. Clarke Scholarship. The report
included the following information.
On Aug. 28, information about $30,000 that will be available from the Clarke
Scholarship, and through the Auxiliary and the ASME Foundation, was sent
to 512 colleges and universities, with a return deadline of Oct. 20. Nearly
30 institutions responded.
The Lucy and Charles W.E. Clarke Scholarship Committee will select five schools
to share the scholarship money. A $6,000 award will be made to each school,
with each one deciding how to disburse the money to qualifying students.
Barbara Goldstein was elected chair of the Lucy and Charles W.E. Clarke
Scholarship Committee for the 2001/2002 academic year.
