Take Part in the ASME Public Policy Agenda Survey

ASME's 2009–2010 Public Policy Agenda Survey, which is currently up and running live on ASME.ORG (click here to view), is now giving you the chance to let your voice be heard on Capitol Hill.

While policymakers in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives are called upon nearly every day to make decisions on the scientific, engineering, or otherwise technical merit of legislation, very few members of Congress have engineering backgrounds.

That's where you come in. Engineers have a vested interest in participating in public policy development, as public policies directly affect virtually every aspect of the profession. ASME's Public Policy Agenda Survey, which is being conducted entirely online, provides you with an opportunity to voice your views.

ASME's Public Policy Agenda for 2009–2010 will be compiled from the results of this survey. The Public Policy Agenda will establish the top five federal public policy issue priorities that ASME will address during the legislative session, and it informs policy makers, other organizations, and members about these priorities. Policy decisions should be backed with sound science, engineering and economics, so the Public Policy Agenda is a very important tool for the society's government relations program as it will drive ASME Government Relations activities and programs at the federal levels.

Each online Public Policy Agenda Survey will be tabulated electronically after it is submitted. The Agenda Survey results will be announced at the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition (IMECE), which will take place from Nov. 2–6 in Boston.
