Call for Nominations: Leaders Wanted

Nominations are now being accepted for a number of ASME leadership positions to begin in June 2009. These posts include ASME president, members of the Board of Governors, and seven Society vice president positions. Candidates will be evaluated by the Nominating Committee in June.

The Nominating Committee asks that each member of ASME help identify at least two candidates for the offices, which include ASME president for 2009–2010, and three members of the Board of Governors to serve from 2009–2012.

Seven ASME vice presidents are also being sought for the following ASME sectors or departments: Conformity Assessment, Education, Government Relations, the International Gas Turbine Institute (IGTI), Programs and Activities, Safety Codes and Standards, and Technical Communities. These vice presidents will serve from 2009–2012.

Each candidate should inform the Nominating Committee of his or her intention to run for office by March 15, 2008, and submit a final nomination package by April 15, 2008. The Nominating Committee will meet at the Annual Meeting in June to evaluate the candidates and recommend nominees.

Although ASME members may endorse only a single proposed nominee for any one office — whether by writing a letter of recommendation or appearing as a supporter on behalf of the proposed nominee — they may support one nominee for each of the three categories (president, Board of Governors member and vice president).

The Nominating Committee is made up of ASME members who represent the various Society units. After working to attract the most qualified and committed ASME members as candidates to serve as Society leaders, the Nominating Committee then presents the best officer candidates to the Society's membership on a proxy that is distributed each fall through Mechanical Engineering magazine.

Nominating packages are available on the ASME's Web site at www.asme.org/Governance/Nominating/Nominating
