Applications being accepted for Rail Division scholarship

In memory of Terrey Hawthorne, the ASME Rail Transportation Division is offering one $2,000 undergraduate scholarship award for the 2006-07 academic year.

The Terrey Hawthorne Memorial Scholarship is open to current employees of railroads, railroad supply firms, transit authorities, associated companies, and their family members.

Hawthorne, who died in 2004, was a retired vice president of engineering for American Steel Foundry. During his long and distinguished career, Hawthorne designed many of the freight-car trucks currently in use in North America.

Applications for the Hawthorne Scholarship are due May 1.

Completed applications and documents should be sent to Samuel R. Williams, Manager of Divisional Affairs, ASME Rail Transportation Division, 5759 Scotia Court, Dublin, OH 43016-3256.
