ASME and IEEE to present joint conference on rail issues

This April, ASME and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers are presenting the 2004 ASME/IEEE Joint Rail Conference, which is the perfect opportunity for you to learn about the new and innovative activities in railway mechanical engineering.

The meeting, which takes place from April 6-8 at the Renaissance Harborplace Hotel in Baltimore, will also provide you with the opportunity to interact with industry leaders involved in the research, development and application of railway advancements.

The Joint Rail Conference is sponsored by the ASME Rail Transportation Division and the Land Transportation Division of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society.

This annual conference provides a forum for technical information exchange among engineers, equipment manufacturers, rail maintenance and operations personnel at transit companies, government officials, and other professionals involved in the business of passenger and freight rail transportation.

The theme of the 2004 meeting is "Applying Technology for System Improvements." Technical papers will cover a wide range of topics, including engineering design, safety assurance, signal and communication systems, energy efficiency, computer simulation, and vehicle crashworthiness. Speakers at the meeting will address the latest progress and technical developments in all types of systems, including high-speed passenger rail and light-rail systems.

Registration for the full conference is $350 for ASME members and authors of conference technical papers, and $200 for single-day registration. Nonmember registration is $475 for the full conference, $300 for a single day. Students and retirees may register for $100 for the full conference, $75 for a single day.

Member and nonmember registration includes proceedings from the conference and admission to conference luncheons. Student and retiree registration does not include the proceedings or luncheons.
