New ASME conference spotlights aero engine life management

ASME's new Aero Engine Life Management Conference is a specialized technical meeting focused on systems maintenance and management, diagnostics, monitoring, life prediction and repair.

The conference, presented by the Society's International Gas Turbine Institute (IGTI), will be held March 2-3 in London at the Thistle Royal Horseguards Hotel, which overlooks the Thames River.

Ted Fecke

"We have crafted a focused conference for the aero-engine community," said Ted Fecke of the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory, who serves as the meeting's co-chair. "The speakers are technical experts and represent a variety of military and commercial organizations in the United States and other nations."

These organizations include turbine manufacturers General Electric, Pratt & Whitney and Rolls-Royce, along with Delta Airlines, the Canadian Air Force, Australia's Defense Science and Technology Organization, the U.S. Navy, Air Force and Civil Aviation Administration, and the Royal Air Force and Ministry of Defense in England.

The two-day conference includes technical presentations and panel discussions that aim to promote high-quality dialogue and information exchange between engine developers and the engineers and technicians responsible for maintaining and repairing in-service systems.

Ray Bull from the U.K. Ministry of Defence, will also co-chair the meeting.

Topic sessions at the aero engine conference will include Advanced Diagnostics and Application, Design for Durability, Economic Perspectives on Engine Life Management, Reliability-centered Maintenance, and Engine Health Monitoring. A session titled "The Way Forward" will wrap up the meeting.

Prior to the conference, on March 1, Cranfield University (U.K.), one of the meeting's participants, will hold a pre-conference workshop on gas turbine diagnostics, prognostics and simulation. Following the conference, on March 4, General Electric will offer a tour of its overhaul facility in Wales.

Registration for the event is $993 before Feb. 16 and $1,052 after that date. Members of ASME, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Air Force and the U.K. Ministry of Defense will receive a $59 discount on registration.
