The conference program for this year's National Manufacturing Week, to be held next month in Chicago, will feature some 100 industry-focused technical sessions — more than half of them organized by ASME.

Four ASME short courses will also be new this year to the program for NMW, which will take place March 3-6 at McCormick Place.

The ASME-organized sessions will fall into six specific tracks: Design Engineering, Manufacturing and Industrial Automation; Design for Manufacturing; Plant Engineering and Maintenance Management; Enterprise IT, Supply Chains and Logistics Management; and Executive Management. There will also be a Facilities Management Conference.

Registering for any of the ASME short courses — most of which are three-hour courses over three days — will offer access to three conference sessions of the registrant's choice, as well as the Expo.

The short courses are: Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Professional Certification Preparation; Tolerance Stack-up; Energizing the Professional Engineer; and the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ).

Because it is a certification course, the course for Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing will last four days.

Registration for each short course is $895 in advance or $995 on site. Registration for the full conference is $795 prior to Feb.17; $895 on site. Registration for the Sampler Package, which gives registrants access to six sessions, is $695 prior to Feb. 17 or $795 on site.

Attendees who register three or more colleagues for a full conference/sampler package, get a free full conference/sampler package, which has a $795 value.

Conference attendees will also want to stop by the ASME booth, which will be located on the exhibit floor.

The ASME/Mechanical Engineering booth, No. 5519, will be a place where visitors will learn about career opportunities, have the chance to voice their opinion about ASME activities and direction, and learn about membership benefits and products. Ongoing activities include a survey by the magazine to gauge the purchase and use of computer software.
