ASME International's Continuing Education
Institute will host four short courses in Chicago next month. The classes
will be offered from March 18-20 at the Palmer House Hilton.
"Lean Manufacturing: Designing and Manufacturing Cells,"
from March 18-20, is a new course that will introduce attendees to systematic
methods for developing optimum plant arrangements as well as the benefits
and detriments of converting to lean manufacturing.
You will learn how to reduce materials handling costs via improved plant
and equipment arrangements, while learning the step-by-step procedures
for developing and designing manufacturing cells. Registration is $995
for ASME members, $1,095 for nonmembers.
On March 18, "ASME A17.4, Emergency Evacuation of Passengers
from Elevators" will show untrained personnel how to safely rescue
stranded passengers from an inoperable elevator.
The class aims to equip these people with the skills to safely and efficiently
remove passengers from elevators due to certain emergencies when no
elevator maintenance personnel are available. Registration is $395 for
members, $495 for nonmembers. This is an Elevator and Escalator Certificate
Program course.
"ASME Y14.5M, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing: Level 1,"
from March 18-20, will provide you with comprehensive coverage of the
uses and need-to-know aspects of ASME Y14.5 through a combination of
lectures, discussions and problem solving sessions. This course covers
key topics, such as maximum material condition, true position and datums.
Registration is $1,070 for members, $1,170 for nonmembers.
Also from March 18-20, "Fracture Mechanics Approach to Life Prediction"
will acquaint you with fatigue and fracture calculations. You will become
familiar with state-of-the-art methodologies, such as the API 579 procedure
and the British Standards PD 6493 approach. Related subjects, such as
damage tolerance analysis, reliability and risk-based inspection, will
be discussed briefly. Registration is $965 for members, $1,065 for nonmembers.
Attendees can receive continuing education units (CEUs) after completing
ASME Continuing Education Institute short courses.
