PV Code coming in March

ASME NEWS
Scheduled for release next month, the Companion
Guide to the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code is a two-volume, 1,400-page
guide to the ASME Code.
With contributions by 36 experts in the Code's preparation and use,
this set, edited by K.R. Rao, serves as a criteria document to the latest
editions of the B31.1 and B31.3 Piping Codes and presents a summary
of specific aspects of interest to users.
The set
also features a preface co-written by K.R. Rao and Robert E. Nickell,
past president of ASME. In it, they write, "This book should be
considered a comprehensive guide for ASME B&PV Code Sections I through
XI, B3.1 and B31.3 Piping Codes."
The contributors address all sections of these codes and provide examples,
explanatory text, graphics, references and annotated bibliography.
In addition, contributors discuss rules for accreditation and certification;
perspectives on cyclic, impact and dynamic loads; functionality and
operability criteria; fluids; pipe vibration; stress intensification
factors, stress indices and flexibility factors; Code design and evaluation
for cyclic loading, as well as bolted-flange joints and connections.
While the books contain a practical understanding of these Codes, the
history of their establishment can be found there as well.
In the preface, Rao and
Nickell write, "A unique aspect of the chapters related to the
Codes is the treatment of the origins and the historical background
unraveling the original intent of the writers of the criteria of the
Codes and Standards. Thus, the current users of these Codes and Standards
can intelligently apply their engineering knowledge and judgement in
their use of them."
The Companion Guide to ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code is available
in hardcover. The cost for each volume sold separately is $156 for ASME
members and $195 for nonmembers. The two-volume set is $280 for ASME
members and $350 for nonmembers.
