ASME events attract thousands of gas turbine
and power generation professionals
This June, join more than 4,000 professionals from
approximately 60 countries at two co-located ASME blockbuster events
the 2001 ASME Turbo Expo Land, Sea and Air, the world's leading gas
turbine industry event, and the International Joint Power Generation Conference
and Exposition (IJPGC), the power industry's most technically acclaimed event.
IJPGC and Turbo Expo will take place June 4-7 in New Orleans. The theme for
the conferences is "New Horizons for Global Power."
Attendees who register for either conference will be able to attend the technical
sessions of both events at no additional cost. Both exhibitions will share
the floor. The events will feature more than 700 technical papers.
ASME's Summer Annual (Business) Meeting will also be in New Orleans on June
3-7.
More
than 4,000 power generation professionals will meet in
June.
Turbo Expo, which is sponsored by ASME's International Gas Turbine Institute
(IGTI), attracts professionals from all gas turbine industry segments, including
design, manufacturing, research and development, education, operations, and
repair and maintenance.
IJPGC is a forum for professionals in the power generation industry who want
to be technically current and on top of industry trends. It is sponsored
by ASME's Power, Fuels and Combustion Technologies & Nuclear Engineering
Divisions. Mechanical Engineering magazine is a sponsoring publication.
In addition to the high-caliber speakers at the 2001 IJPGC opening keynote
session, a highlight of the conference will be a series of plenary sessions,
open to attendees of both events, that will take an in-depth look at the
state of the power industry.
Each of the three plenary sessions will be stand-alone events that will begin
the technical program each day, June 5-7. They will be conducted from 8 to
9:30 a.m.
Each session will focus on a topic of vital interest to the power industry
professional. Panels of experts will give presentations. At the end of the
presentations, the audience will be able to participate in an open forum
with the panel, to address specific issues and questions.
The first plenary, on June 5, is co-sponsored by the United States Energy
Association. It features a panel of experts who will discuss deregulation
and its effect on businesses, consumers, power generators and utilities.
Discussions will include issues such as why deregulation is working in some
states and not in others, and how regulated states view the prospect of
deregulation.
The second plenary, on June 6, will deal with the financial aspects of
deregulation. Discussions will include elements of energy project financing,
and the investment and insurance community overview of the electric power
industry. Financial, investment and insurance experts will discuss the economic
ramifications of deregulation on utilities, power generators and the businesses
that support them.
The final plenary session, on June 7, is co-sponsored by the ASME Energy
Committee. It will take a forward look at the power industry. It will address
the utilization of new power plants and power systems in their infancy or
now being developed, and how they may fit into the country's power generation
mix.

During the Turbo Expo Technical Congress, gas turbine design concepts, research
and development advances, and aftermarket issues will be addressed.
The Technical Congress will comprise nearly 150 technical paper and panel
sessions offering state-of-the-art information on all aspects of gas turbine
technology. The Technical Congress will include a group of sessions developed
by the IGTI Task Force on Distributed Power, and a panel session on 21st-century
aircraft gas turbine maintenance and repair.
New
Horizons for Global Power will be the theme of the conference in New
Orleans.
Turbo Expo 2001 will also feature the Gas Turbine Users Symposium, which
will include panels of gas turbine users discussing key topics such as financial
risks, certification, maintenance, repair and retrofitting. The Users Symposium's
24 panel, tutorial and discussion sessions will be presented in three program
tracks: "Performance Enhancement and Preservation," "Hot Section Repair and
Integrity," and "Business and Economic Strategies."
The thousands that are expected to attend will include utility power producers,
independent power producers, oil and gas suppliers, industrial power producers,
people from commercial and passenger air carriers and marine transport companies,
and power project developers and financiers.
Engineering and construction firms, maintenance and repair facilities, government
agencies, equipment manufacturers, gas turbine packagers, research and
development firms, industry publications and universities also will be well
represented.
Companies at the Exposition, which will spotlight more than 200 leading suppliers
of gas turbine products and services, will include suppliers of land-based
industrial engines, commercial and military aircraft engines, marine propulsion
and power systems.
Businesses that are involved in oil and gas platforms, commercial power plant
applications, pipeline applications, gas turbine manufacturing and packaging,
and auxiliary equipment production will also be on hand at the Turbo Expo
exhibit floor.
