Bright lights, big city: Congress to take center stage in New York

ASME's International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition opens in New York on Nov. 11, 2001.

As the birthplace of ASME, New York was long the location for the Congress until a decision was made by the leadership to move the meeting to various alternative sites.

In 1980, the 101st Congress was held in Chicago and every year since then, the Congress has taken place in a different city. The return of the Congress to the Big Apple in November is something of a homecoming for ASME's annual gathering of engineering professionals.

The highlight topic for Congress 2001 is "Progress Through Partnerships: Team Approaches for Today's Economy." The New York Hilton Hotel and Towers will be the setting for this spectacular event from Nov. 11-16.

Among exhibitors, the excitement of the Congress being in New York is overwhelming. Approximately 75 percent of the show space had already been sold at press time.

This year in New York will be the biggest and best Congress, featuring a dedicated track of papers, panels and workshops that address advanced technologies, innovation and change.

In addition, ASME members will have the opportunity to explore the sights of an exciting and vibrant city that has undergone a renaissance over the past decade.
