On November 7, a surprise presentation took place during
the National Board Meeting of the ASME Auxiliary at the Congress meeting
in Orlando, Fla.
Each year, all members of the ASME Board of Governors, senior vice presidents
and the Auxiliary are allowed to give a Dedicated Service Award. Except for
the award that the Auxiliary is allowed to give, these awards generally go
to members of ASME.
Given the usual circumstances, it was a surprise and pleasure when Susan
Skemp, a member of the Board of Governors, decided to give her award this
year to Marcia Zwiep from the ASME Auxiliary, for her exemplary work as the
president of the Auxiliary for the past two years.
This is indeed an honor, and one that Marcia was not aware of until the night
before the award was presented. It was the work of Irma Bennett many years
ago that allowed Auxiliary members to be considered for these awards. I am
sure that on behalf of Marcia, we are all grateful to the work Irma did in
this area.
The Auxiliary received a letter of appreciation from the daughter of Marge
Diederich for the Farny Scholarship, which was given in her name. James Nelson,
who attends Drexel University, was the recipient of this scholarship.
Since the presentations by Auxiliary members at the Spring Regional
Administrative Conferences and the Regional Student Conferences were so well
accepted, it was decided by the Board of the Auxiliary to continue the program
that was set up by Nina Webb.
If there are any volunteers, I am sure Nina would like to hear from you.
Her number is (321) 452-3717, in the winter. During the summer months, she
can be reached at (706) 745-4003. She can be e-mailed anytime at
jtwebb@digital.net.
