ASME Life Fellow Dale Leroy Schubert, an engineer and inventor, died in Tacoma, Wash., on Sept. 3. He was 91. After graduating from the University of Idaho in 1938 with a degree in mechanical engineering, Schubert worked as an engineer at Allis Chalmers Manufacturing Co. and Boeing Aircraft Co., and as a chief engineer for the Plywood Research Foundation in Tacoma. He then established International Design Inc., an engineering company, and was owner and president until retiring in 1977. Schubert's name as an inventor or co-inventor is on 40 U.S. and foreign patents. He was a registered engineer in several U.S. states and in several other countries. He was named a Life Fellow of ASME for his accomplishments in the development of hardboard and particle board manufacturing equipment. In 1965, Schubert volunteered and served on a U.S. Foreign Trade Mission under President Johnson and traveled to Thailand and Taiwan. He became a member of ASME in 1948.
